7:00 PM - 8:00 PM7:00 p.m. Shabbat services, led by Rabbi Rachlis and Cantor Braier, during which Rabbi Michael Strassfeld will speak on his latest book, “Judaism Disrupted: A Spiritual Manifesto For The 21st Century.” It begins with the promise that Judaism isn’t about being a good Jew. Instead, Judaism offers wisdom and practices on how to take the most precious gift we have been given – our lives – and live that gift with meaning and purpose. Judaism Disrupted sets out eleven core principles that can serve as a guide for life’s journey. These principles offer ways for cultivating such qualities as gratitude and satisfaction and for deepening a commitment to social justice and to this planet.
Rabbi Strassfeld is the author of the incredibly influential, three-volume Jewish Catalog, the hippest guidebook to do-it-yourself Judaism in the 70s, and other interesting works. He is a 1991 graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and the rabbi emeritus of the Society For The Advancement Of Judaism, the Reconstructionist synagogue in Manhattan founded by Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan. Sponsored by Dr. Miriam Piven Cotler.
