Shabbat Alive

Friday, August 29, 2025 5 Elul 5785

6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join us for Shabbat Alive, led by Rabbi George, Cantor Ruti, and a live band.

The evening begins at 6PM with a Pre-Oneg and introduction to Reconstructionist Judaism and University Synagogue. We warmly invite you to bring friends or family who may be curious to learn more about our vibrant congregation.

The evening will continue with 7PM services and a special talk from NewGround’s Ben Ginsburg. Ben will share how NewGround’s work has evolved since 2006, how it has shifted after October 7 and the crisis in Gaza, and why dialogue across differences remains essential even in painful times.

This meaningful evening sets the stage for our upcoming Community Conversation Shabbat. On Friday, September 12, we’ll continue the journey with hands-on training in sacred dialogue techniques. Guided by Ben, and drawing on tools developed by Resetting the Table and NewGround, you’ll practice constructive communication on charged issues and build skills for engaging across divides.

We would like to sincerely thank our generous sponsors who make Shabbat Alive possible: Gilbert Gluck and Catherine Bradley for the musicians, and Dr. Steven and Rena Stone for sponsoring our speaker.

To attend services in person, register below. Watch via live stream, or access the video at a later time on our website: University Synagogue | LiveStream Services.

Complimentary babysitting is available for children ages 4–11. Please register below if your child(ren) will be attending.
