Today is our wedding anniversary and Ruti and I could not have received a better present than the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality. It’s a reminder that love is wider than prejudice and fear and more inclusive than some of the more myopic, inherited religious, cultural and legal traditions of the past.
Today is the day that, four years ago, my son Michael, met his bashert, also named Michael, and, in three months, they will be married. Thankfully, we now live in a country that affirms diversity and the right of people to love honestly and openly. In the words of the President today, “we’ve made our union a little more perfect.”
From Stonewall to SCOTUS, it’s been an amazing journey of growth, maturity and freedom for our country and each of us. Mazel tov!
