UCI Law School Dean Erwin Chemerinsky (University Synagogue member) is a nationally-renowned professor of constitutional law and federal civil procedure.  He is the founding Dean of the University of California Irvine Law School and currently serves as dean and distinguished professor of law. He came to UCI from Duke University, where he was the Alston & Bird Professor of Law and professor of political science since 2004.  Previously, he was the Sydney M. Irmas Professor of Public Interest Law, Legal Ethics & Political Science at the University of Southern California Law School for 21 years, and was director of the university’s Center for Communications Law & Policy from 2000 to 2004.  He served as a professor at DePaul College of Law from 1980-1983, and was a trial attorney with the US Department of Justice, and at Dobrovir, Oakes & Gebhart in Washington, D.C. Dean Chemerinsky received his Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
